30 Day Shred Challenge

Okay, I’ve been bad at keeping up with my workouts lately… I use all the excuses.  “I’m too tired.”  “I don’t have time.”  And I also like to convince myself that I get enough exercise chasing after 3 kids all day.  But it’s not true.  I may be tired, but I feel more energized when I workout regularly.  I DO have the time, especially if it’s just 30 minutes.  I spend at least that much wasted time on FB alone each day.  And to be honest, I don’t have to chase my kids around all that much either.

So yesterday, I was talking to my sis-in-law who mentioned that she did Jillian Michael’s 30 Day Shred workout the day before.  She commented on how she liked that it was so short, but still a great workout.  That reminded me that I had that DVD rotting away in my workout DVD case along with all my other neglected workout DVDs.  I pulled it out last night and did my first day of my 30 day shred.

I hereby pledge to do the workout for the next 30 days, to the best of my ability (I can’t help it if I get sick)… It’s going to be a painful 30 days, so please forgive me if I’m grumpy.  Also, if you hug me, don’t squeeze too hard because I’ll likely be in pain from soreness.  Jillian Michael’s is not my favorite trainer, but I need to do something to jump start my workouts.  So here we go… Day #1 (yesterday)  wasn’t too bad once it was done.  I had a hard time lifting my arms for a little while, but I’m not as sore today as I thought I would be.  I started using 5 lb weights… wondering if I should move down to 3 lb.  I’ll try the 5’s again tonight and see how it goes.

I will take some measurements and such tonight (for my purposes only… I’m not telling you guys!).  Then I can compare them to the “after” result after the 30 day shred is done. Maybe then I’ll share…  Feel free to ask me how it’s going.  I’m posting this to make it public and I hope you guys (all 3 or 4 of you who might read my blog)  will hold me accountable.  🙂

Weight Loss Blog Revival

Yeah, so it’s been several months since my last post on my weight loss blog, and a pretty slow year in terms of fitness progress, so I feel it is time to revive my blog since it helps me feel more accountable to all of the people (person? imaginary friend?) who read it. So go read it! 🙂 And feel free to leave me comments especially if you have a favorite workout you like to do… I’m always looking for new things.

Workout Tracking, Cook Your Lettuce

I’ve been on a long quest to lose weight the past few years. I’m glad to say that I’m back to the weight I was when Nathan and I fist started dating. I recently found a website called Traineo.com. You can log in your workouts, your diet, and weight and the site graphs it so you can see your progress. It also calculates your calories burned during your workout, and it tells you how far to your goal and how long you have to get there. You can also add “motivators”… these are people who can see your progress and leave you messages and comments to keep you motivated and hold you accountable. I don’t have any motivators yet… anyone want to volunteer? 🙂

I tried a new thing tonight… stir-fried iceberg lettuce. I made a stir-fry with summer squash, broccoli, onions, garlic, mushrooms, and iceberg lettuce. I added some Asian Vinagrette, salt and pepper to it while it was cooking. The lettuce acts just like other greens… doesn’t really add any flavor, just soaks up the flavor of the sauce. It turned out pretty good. Apparently, cooking lettuce is a popular thing to do in some Chinese dishes.

New CD, new workout

I got my new Michael Buble Cd today. It’s his first release. I’ve been totally addicted to the first one I got a little while back. I’ve listened to it over and over and over again… thankfully, it’s on the mp3 player, so I haven’t worn out the Cd. If you don’t know who Michael Buble is, the best way that I can describe his music is that his style is similar to Sinatra, but with some modern-ness to it. Anyways, his voice is really easy to listen to… at least to me and he does some pretty good cover songs. I do think he drives Nathan insane, though. When he hears one of his songs, he probably loses a hair from the top of his head and has it grow in his ear to try to muffle the sound.

I also got a new workout DVD. It’s from the series put out by Prevention Magazine. I’ll post about it on my weightloss page and workout dvd review page. I sat and watched it all the way through, and eventually got motivated to move since it looked pretty fun.
