First of all, GO JAYHAWKS! I’m not much of a basketball watcher these days, but I’m very happy that the Jayhawks won the championship cause my Kansas relatives (the Kansasians) live in Lawrence and my Uncle J works at KU. I bet there are many celebrations going on in Lawrence! But as I said… I missed the game… PixelJunk Monsters was keeping Nathan and I engaged. As Nathan says on his page, we’ve been playing some games on PS3 lately. We’re bonding over video games… haha! I like playing “Hot Shots: Out of Bounds”, but every time I sit down to play by myself to try to unlock new things, Sean wants to play. I may have to start skipping exercise so that I can play while Sean is asleep 😛
We’ve been playing lots of Scrabble of late since Grandma Peny is visiting. She loves to play! We’ve become accustomed to playing 9-tile scrabble instead of 7-tile scrabble. The games go much faster, which is really nice. We haven’t played Boggle with Grandma yet… I think I’ll have to introduce that word game to her. I think she’ll like it too.
Nathan and I played several games of Super Puzzle Fighter last night. I used to be able to beat him, but he schooled me greatly. Alas, I have lost my mad puzzle skillz!
We’ve been indulging in Klondike Bars of late. Buy one get one free sales at Albertson’s are the bizzomb! We have the Krunch kind and the Oreo kind. There’s apparently several different varieties that I’ve never even seen! I’d like to try the Peppermint Patty and the Cheesecakes ones. MMMM, sounds good, ya? I guess I better work out now. 🙂
I scored some free/inexpensive items today on Freecycle.org and Craiglist. I got a pictionary game off of Freecycle. I played this recently and had a blast. I also scored a bike trailer for Sean to ride in and a jogging stroller for pretty cheap on Craigslist. I can hardly wait to use them. I LOVE IT!!! It’s like thrift store shopping online, except sometimes it’s free!
Nathan loves strategy games and games where there is not much “luck” involved. Me? I love word games and brain teaser type games. I finally got Nathan to play Boggle with me last night. I remembered it was really fun, but boy, I could play that game for hours upon hours! We finally had to stop to get Sean ready for bed. I also recently found a site called “Playwithyourmind” that has all kinds of different games that make you think. There’s all kinds of word, math, memory, logic, focus and other types of games there. It’s not full of fancy schmancy graphics, but the site kept me occupied for much longer than I should have been playing.
Anyone who knows me well, knows that I LOVE to play Scrabble. I also loved to play Boggle when I was little. I finally was able to buy Boggle this weekend. I’m so excited to play! No one seems to share my enthusiasm though! I’ve had the game for 3 whole days now, and no one has wanted to play! Can you believe it? 🙂 I’ve realized that not many people find word games as fun as I do. Lots of people have told me that they’re “too hard” or you have to “think too much”. Whenever I hear that, it reminds of an episode of the Cosby Show where Cliff is lecturing Theo about his bad grades and not trying hard enough to learn. He tells Theo, “You’re afraid to try because you’re afraid your brain is going to explode and it’s going to ooze out of your ears.” So don’t be afraid to try playing a game where where you have to think… you might learn something new. Chances are, your brain will NOT explode and ooze out your ears. 🙂
I downloaded a trial version of the new Yahoo Scrabble game. I don’t like that it gives you another chance if you try to play a non-word. It just tells you that the word isn’t found int he scrabble dictionary, then you can try again. I think it should automatically penalize you and you should lose your turn. I played against the “computer” and there are different difficulty levels you can choose. Depending on the level, the computer will play words that will equal an average number of points per word. For example, The beginner level computer will play words that average about 10 points per word, but sometimes they’re really hard words that a beginner wouldn’t really play. Overall, I think I like the good ole’ boardgame the best still.
