Yay! When I got dressed today, I had to tighten my belt another notch! When I first started working out, I owned some belts that didn’t really fit me, and I didn’t need any belts cause my clothes weren’t loose. Now I’ve gone from a size 16 to a size 14 (and those are starting to get too big!) and I need to wear belts with all my pants. Next goal: fit into size 12. I have a pair of size 12’s that fit me, but they’re stretchy denim, so that doesn’t count. 🙂 Keep in mind, this has been 2 years in the making, so it feels pretty good to see what kind of results I’ve had. All that sweating pays off.
I’ve been doing pretty good lately about working out more regularly. I even start to crave moving my body if I’ve been inactive for too long. I’ve also stepped up my weight lifting and am doing heavier weights now. I’m finally starting to see some shape coming back to my arms. My arms are my weakest muscles, so I have some work to do to balance them with my more muscular legs. In terms of diet, I’ve started to track how many servings of fruits and veggies I have each day. I’m averaging about 6 a day right now. I’d like to step that up to 8. The local farmer’s market had become my favorite store.
Anyways, Traineo.com has been helping me really keep track and stay motivated. My cousin joined up with me and we tell each other about our workouts and if we ate really badly on any days. If anyone else wants to sign up, I’d love to add you as a contact and have your help keeping me motivated to keep on sweatin’. There are also some pretty helpful forums with decent advice, some from experts, but most from what people have experienced in their own lives. So if you like or need to work out, join and we can keep each other motivated!

What Sean said today…
On the way to the store today, Sean said, “What’s it smell like mommy? (asking about the store) It smells like a revolution.” Lots of kids his age like to ask “why?”… he likes to ask “what’s it smell like?” and then he tells you what he thinks it smells like. He cracks me up!
Today he also gave me a big hug around my belly and said, “you’re SOOOOO squishy, mommy!”… I think I need to go do some crunches or something. haha!
Let me call you “Sweetie”
Sean went into the bathroom today, got situated, and realized he forgot to close the door. I heard him calling me and saying, “Can you close the door, Sweetie? Can you close the door please?”. He calls both Nathan and I “Sweetie” sometimes. Funny boy!
A Sad Scene
I was leaving the Dollar Store with Sean this afternoon and saw a a mom and teenage daughter yelling at each other while we were walking by them to our car. The mother slapped her teenage daughter in the face, a younger daughter ran into the store, and while the mother and teenager were having it out, a younger son came out of the van to try to help his mom. She yelled at him and asked him what he wanted. He said “I was just trying to help you, mom”. She screamed at him, “I don’t need your help, punk… you’re just a little punk!” Then she turned around to scream at her teenage daughter some more. The little boy ran over to a light pole and sat down. Then his mom kept screaming, “Junior, get in the van! Junior, get back in the van!”… over and over again. The boy was just sitting at the light pole crying, and he refused to get back into the van. I wouldn’t have wanted to get into the van either. I tried to get Sean into the car as fast as I could… I didn’t want him seeing that kind of behavior. I was wishing that I could do something to help, but I had no idea what to do, so I got in the car and went home, but my heart was just aching for those kids. What would you have done?
Do you know what’s in YOUR steamed bun?
Nathan IM’ed me this article today… sick! Thank goodness we live in a country where there is a little more regulation of the food service industry. But still, it makes me want to start cooking things from scratch more often… who knows what might be in all those pre-packaged products we buy off the shelves! I don’t want to think of it.
Sprayground
Sean and I went to the Sprayground with some friends. It was lots of fun, except when the sun got hidden behind some clouds and it got a bit cooler. But the sun came back out and it was nice again. For those of you in Albuquerque, the Sprayground is part of the Manzano Mesa Multigenerational Center in Southeast Albuquerque. It’s an automated water playground. There are several water features that spray, mist and dump water on you. Very nice for Albuquerque’s hot summers. Now I smell like sunscreen… that smell brings me back to my childhood days spent at the beach!
Workout Tracking, Cook Your Lettuce
I’ve been on a long quest to lose weight the past few years. I’m glad to say that I’m back to the weight I was when Nathan and I fist started dating. I recently found a website called Traineo.com. You can log in your workouts, your diet, and weight and the site graphs it so you can see your progress. It also calculates your calories burned during your workout, and it tells you how far to your goal and how long you have to get there. You can also add “motivators”… these are people who can see your progress and leave you messages and comments to keep you motivated and hold you accountable. I don’t have any motivators yet… anyone want to volunteer? 🙂
I tried a new thing tonight… stir-fried iceberg lettuce. I made a stir-fry with summer squash, broccoli, onions, garlic, mushrooms, and iceberg lettuce. I added some Asian Vinagrette, salt and pepper to it while it was cooking. The lettuce acts just like other greens… doesn’t really add any flavor, just soaks up the flavor of the sauce. It turned out pretty good. Apparently, cooking lettuce is a popular thing to do in some Chinese dishes.
Rainier Cherries
Just had to let everyone know… Rainier Cherries are in the stores right now… these are sooooooooo yummy! I think I might eat the whole bag.
An Apple (iPhone) a day…
Nathan and I went into the Apple store tonight and played with some iPhones. We took each other’s picture and were able to email them to each other. Yes… we are dorks. The phones are rather fancy. web browsing was neat, but we didn’t figure out how to zoom in on web pages. Nathan mentioned some other cool features. I can see why people would be willing to pay many monies for one… they are pretty neat.
