vanessa vs. stomach bug

I was out of commission yesterday evening and afternoon from some sort of stomach bug. I felt better shortly before going to bed, thank God. I lost 3 pounds in that one afternoon. Not the way I recommend losing weight, that’s for sure, and yet, I don’t miss those pounds. I’ll probably gain it all back… it’s probably fluids lost. Today, I’m still a little afraid to eat much. I had dry toast for breakfast. Maybe I’ll have a banana, too.

Last night, Nathan kept telling Sean that “Mommy is sick”. So last night after I was feeling better, I wanted to hold Sean before we put him into bed. Every time I tried to touch him, he’d groan and pull away and say “sick”. It was soooo funny! He thought that if I touched him he would suddenly be sick too, I think.

update: I felt good enough to workout today, so I did. then I started having stomach problems again this afternoon. I ate some bread and now I’m fine. How weird is that??

Yahoo Time Capsule

Yahoo! is projecting images it has gathered for its time capsule on the red rocks of Jemez Pueblo just north of Albuquerque. Here is the article. Here are some pictures. You can watch a LIVE webcast tonight and tomorrow night here from about 7pm to 11:30 pm, but if you go see it live, it will go on until about 1 am. We thought about going to see it live, but decided it’s too cold, so we’ll watch it tonight through the webcast, and eat some nice hot chicken curry. 🙂

Freecycled Trampoline

I gotta tell ya, I love Freecycle. Today we picked up a 15 ft. trampoline from someone in Edgewood. The drive was worth it. It’s missing a few springs, but still has lots of life in it. It also was lacking accesories like a safety pad, safety net, and ladder, but non of those is really necessary. I priced a 15 ft trampoline online and it was about $400! Yowzah! Now all we need to do is build up our back wall so we don’t drive the neighbors nuts with all the bouncing. 🙂

Car accident “Investigation”

I was involved in a minor accident in July. See here and here. I just received word from the “other” insurance company. They’re claiming that after their “investigation” that I was at fault for the accident and that they’re denying my claim for reimbursement for the repairs. Funny that whenever I returned their call to tell them what happened, they wouldn’t call me back. How can you have a thorough investigation if you do not speak to all parties involved? And so begins our letter writing to try to convince them that they’re WRONG. I’m more than a bit annoyed at the whole situation. Grrrr!

Dental Hygiene

I had my semi-annual dental appointment yesterday. Still no cavities! Wahoo! Only a few minutes of some light scraping, and then the polishing. No pain whatsoever. I think that using those Sonicare toothbrushes really has helped improve my teeth and make the dental visits better. That and the fact that my dental people are awesome! Several years ago, I was on the verge of periodontal disease and my gums were in pretty bad shape. I had to have 2 scalings , and that was NOT pleasant! Now that I’ve had a baby, I think the labor pains were easier than the scalings… and that’s before the epidural! If you’re looking for a great dentist in Albuquerque, I will recommend mine.

You are what you eat

When I asked Sean what he wanted for dinner tonight, he said “pickles and cookies”. I gave him some pickles, but we’re out of cookies, so he had to settle for pasta.

Survey Guilt

I got a call this morning from an un-named company asking me to take a survey about fast food restaurants. “Upon completion of the survey, we will donate $1000 to the Make-a-wish Foundation. Now, would you please be SO KIND as to complete this survey?” She really layed it on thick the way she emphasized the words, as if I would be a terrible person keeping $1000 from the charitable organization if I did not complete the survey. I didn’t like them trying to guilt me into it. I asked them to put me on their “do-not-call” list. She made it sound like for every survey they get, they’ll donate $1000, but I highly doubt that. They’ll maybe donate $1000 after the completion of the whole survey project, so as long as those few people who love to give their opinions on stuff participate, the M-a-W Foundation will probably get some money.

Strange Albuquerque

Driving near Tingley Beach and the Rio Grande Zoo a couple weeks ago, I came upon this interesting sght. There’s another pole around the corner that is starting to get covered, too.

Balloon Fiesta 2006

Sean and I are gonna brave the early morning and cold weather to attend the first mass ascension for Balloon Fiesta tomorrow morning. Nathan won’t be going with us since he’ll be up late gaming tonight. The weather might be icky, but we’ll see. I know Sean loves seeing the balloons, and so do I, so it should be lots of fun. I checked out ticket prices online, and found out that if you buy your Park n’ Ride tickets (which include admission to the balloon fiesta) ahead of time online, adults can save $5. Pretty nice discount, but just too bad if you don’t have access to internet. http://www.balloonfiesta.com

Anniversary Celebration

Sean ended up not sleeping over at cousin Sarah’s house because Sarah came down with a stomach bug. We went to pick him up late on Thursday night. Then early on Friday morning, Sean got sick in his bed. So we woke early on Friday and Nathan got the lad cleaned up and i got got his bed all cleaned up. Then we all went back to sleep for another couple hours. We got up around 10, and Sean seemed fine, so my mum picked him up and he spent the day with her at her restaurant. Nathan and I went out for lunch to Macaroni Grill, then caught the latest “Pirates of the Carribbean” movie, then went to dinner at Fudd Rucker’s. We got 2 “raincheck” movie tickets because the movie was slightly out of focus for the whole time. Nathan told an employee about it once, and I went out twice to tell someone. It was like watching the movie without my contacts, ‘cept without having to squint. I was a bit annoyed. We hadn’t been “out” to a movie since the last Star Wars. This experience reminded us why we like Netflix… pause when you want, move your chair as close to the tv as you want, and the food is practically free. Anyways, after we got home, we took a walk in the moonlight to a nearby convenience store, just cause we’d never been there and it’s right near the house. It’s a pretty standard convenience store, but Nathan was disappointed to see that they didn’t sell hotdogs. 🙂
